Hannah Segrave is the Associate Curator of European art to 1800 at the Saint Louis Art Museum. Her doctoral dissertation, which she is currently preparing as a book manuscript, Conjuring Genius: Salvator Rosa and the Dark Arts of Witchcraft, is an investigation of the artist’s corpus of imagery of black magic, and its relationship to Rosa’s creative and intellectual development, personal theory of picture-making and self-fashioning as an elite painter in seicento Florence and Rome. She has worked at numerous diverse institutions, including the Ohio State University, Metropolitan Museum of Art, National Gallery of Art/CASVA, Harvard Art Museums, and Cleveland Museum of Art, where she was the curator of the 2015 exhibition The Novel and the Bizarre: Salvator Rosa’s Scenes of Witchcraft.
